- We know that the climate crisis is one of the most difficult challenges of our lifetime, and all companies have a role to play. Business strategies, therefore, need to align with the Paris Agreement in a very transparent way.
- A good example would be our ambition to reduce the carbon emissions in our operations to zero. In 2020, when we first set this goal, we believed that this could be meaningfully achieved by 2040 - delivering real, measurable and additive emission reductions, rather than simply offsetting all the carbon we use.
- But over the past year, we’ve been improving our assessment of the data across the organisation to give us a clearer understanding of our carbon footprint.
- And the pandemic also forced us to re-examine some of our policies around things like business travel and our use of renewable energy. We now believe we can be more ambitious around this target. So we are bringing that goal forward by a decade, to achieve that milestone by 2030.
- We believe that corporate sustainability goals need to be constantly reassessed - in order that they stretch you as an organisation, but at the same time they also need to have direction and focus.
- Importantly, achieving our goals around sustainability can only be done through the commitment and contribution of everyone in the organisation.
